Light a Candle
Earl J. Lehmann, 90, of Watertown, passed away Saturday, July 11, 2009, at Marquardt Memorial Manor in Watertown.
Earl was born in Watertown on Oct. 8, 1918, son of Theodore and Lillian (Habbegger) Lehmann. He married Lilly Koshelnick on Oct. 30, 1937, in LaPorte, Ind. She preceded him in death on May 10, 1993.
Earl attended grade school in Watertown and was a 1935 graduate of Watertown High School. He worked for a construction company in LaPorte, and then at Mullen's Dairy in Watertown from April 15, 1939, until Nov. 15, 1942. He then was employed by A.O. Smith in Milwaukee until Aug. 1, 1944.
Earl served in the United States Army during World War II in the Pacific Theatre of Operations from Aug. 1, 1944, to July 14, 1946. He returned to Watertown and was employed at Mullen's Dairy until June 15, 1959. He then worked at Watertown Sheet Metal and a tire and supply company until Oct. 11, 1961. He was then employed at Sears in Watertown as a division manager until Oct. 11, 1980. He then owned and operated Earl's Golf Club Clinic until his retirement in October of 1992.
Earl was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Water-town and had been a deacon. He had served on various city committees and was a member of Watertown American Legion Post No. 189.
Survivors include his two sons, John (Janet) Lehmann of Apache Junction, Ariz., and Russell (Diana) Lehmann of Reeseville; four grandsons, John Earl (Tracy), James (Bridget), Jeffrey and Scott; two great-grandsons, Tyler and Jake; two great-granddaughters, Caitlin and Jessica; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was the last member of his immediate family.
Earl was further preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, one sister and a daughter-in-law, Kay.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Watertown with the Rev. John Kennedy officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Watertown with military graveside rites provided by Watertown American Legion Post No. 189.
Relatives and friends may call at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.
Memorials, if desired, may be given to First Congregational United Church of Christ.
